I don't understand why you would go to eBay with no recourse if something goes wrong and no idea if the product is from some asshole who picked them up from the factory seconds bin when you can get the same cheap light skewer from a decent source.

They're all of £15 on planet X right now -

Or £12 on Wiggle -

I would assume that in most cases you can either source them locally for similarly good proces or get them delivered as cheaply as the eBay ones. There's no point in saving £5 on those prices for a critical component.

Now I'm a bit impertinent, I know  ! You are probably also the guy that don't buy chinese or taiwanese wheels/frames because they are all scam and fraudster :P! No tests etc.. Even though the majority are made there. The dealers (I use) on eBay has probably more deals than your shops and it's also branded stuff. The brand is just not familiar to you maybe. Feedback is pretty transparent there and that's gold. However I also use PlanetX and their skewers are just the same.

Got myself the J&L from eBay and just waiting for them now in the mail. I believe a few members on here run them without any issue.

Sound like you don't have much knowledge when it comes to manufacturing origin. Word of advise - never mix Taiwanese and Chinese. Taiwan is the origin of true pioneers. They produce some of the finest quality products with exceptional quality control. There are dedicated universities for bike industry. There are slew of industry related shows in Taipei https://cyclingtips.com/2017/03/taipei- ... ge-day-one

On another hand, I don't want to talk much about China. It's the country that don't specialize in anything. They are notorious for being copycats and reverse engineering. They make everything from condoms to airplanes. Cycling aside, many products are now made in China due to lower manufacturing cost. I haven't met a single person in my life that told me that Chinese products are amazing!

Then it's good that almost every reseller regarding these skewers and other small parts are from Taiwan. I can't see why I should pay 50% more for the same product probably just relabeled i EU. I use my local LBS for the service and guidance and pay the premium when I need the items fast. Otherwise I have been using eBay for things like skewers etc for more than 15 years. Never had any issues.

Spliid, what I said was I wouldn't buy from ebay, the amount of counterfeit and dodgy stuff (stolen or knackered) on there is just ridiculous these days. Sure there are some sellers who are trustworthy (bike shop overflow sellers etc) but on the whole ebay is a pretty awful market these days.

I just don't get why you'd bother losing out on (for example) Wiggles returns policy for the saving you'd make on a £12 skewer, it's nothing like the same as saving £200+ on a frame bought direct (that I totally get) and I have no problem with people buying open mold frames direct if they've researched the seller, it's not the same thing (I draw the line at faked big brand frames though as I think its safe to argue that the guys selling them probably don't give a damn).
