Convert Rotor QXL to single front ring

Hi All,

Did search but didn't find the answer so:

Has anyone ever ran a Rotor QXL ring (54T) as a single, without any inner? If so, I plan to run usual 11 speed at rear but do away with the front inner ring.

I'm thinking as the QXL is meant for double setup that chain throwing would be big! Can use chain catcher but does single ring always need to be a thicker ring?

It can be done but you must use a chain catcher, or leave the front mech in place but with the adjustment screws adjusted to lock the mech in place.

Otherwise, you WILL drop the chain.

I did it a few years ago on my cx bike (before they released the cx specific ring) but had to run the front derailleur to stop it dropping the chain at the top and bottom of the cassette.

FWIW I installed a single ring ( narrow wide) on a Rotor double crankset.
I put it on the inner side because it gave a much better chainline.

Louis :)

Yes, was thinking of doing this even with the standard ring, fit inside for better chainline. Might try on turbo to test then road test on bumps etc.
