Hoping someone can shed some light on this for me.

Elsewhere in the forum I've seen it said that 38T is the smallest inner ring you can do on a 130BCD crank. But I came across this from Chain Reaction which allows you to select a 130 BCD crank with semi-compact (52/36) rings. Is this right, or is it just an error on CR's part? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/us/en/campagnolo-athena-11-speed-groupset/rp-prod139946
(see image below)

I have an old SRAM Force crank on my road bike running 53/39 and I'd love to go down to 52/36 but be able to keep my current crank arms. I know the ad is for Campy but that doesn't seem like it should impact how small you can go on the inner ring. Searching for a 52/36 130BCD set on eBay doesn't yield any results. Any ideas?

I think that's a web error. Smallest 130 bcd is 38t. Any smaller and the bolt spacing would be in the teeth of the chainring.

Campagnolo use 135 bcd, so it must be an error

the smallest chain ring for 130BCD mentioned was 37T but it was never materialized.

i am still riding 53/39, my next bike will definitely has 50/34 though ... LOL

Another option is run a bigger cassette, but that might run into derailleur issue and likely to require a new rear derailleur for anything bigger than 28T

To my awareness, this is the only 36T in 130BCD and it's integrated into the spider.

Not sure if it's easy to actually purchase, but assuming you have the Force cranks with a removable spider, you could just buy a 110BCD spider and keep the arms.

you can make 52/36 double using 130/74 triple crankset and 36T in 74mm BCD

Stronglight Dural 5083 Silver 74mm Shimano Triple Inner Chainring - 36T (265010)
Stronglight Zircal 7075 Silver 74mm Triple Inner Chainring - 36T (261015)

Nowadays this would be feasible, but my cranks are older and the arms & spider are one piece.

My version (mine are not compact obviously)

Rotor make a 53t 110BCD chain ring paired to a 38t inner ring.

A separate 36T chainring on a 130BCD isn't possible basically because the teeth/chain interferes with the chainring bolts.

When the need for chainring bolts is eliminated, e.g. by integrating the them with the chainring and spider, then there is just enough clearance without having to resort to non-standard (read: smaller) chainring bolts.
