Park Tool DS-1 Digital scale discrepancies...
Moderator: robbosmans
so i have a park tool digital scale (the DS-1), and i always used to just hold it stead in my two hands to weight my bikes. but, i just recently got a park tool repair stand (the PCS-10), so of course i decided to no longer weigh by holding it, but to clamp the scale in the stand and weigh like that. this has resulted in a 200 grams difference between holding it by hand and having it clamped in the stand ( it is 200 lighter in the stand).
what is going with that? which measurement is correct?
thanks!

yeah that is what i was thinking, but i just wanted to make sure there wasn't some sort of calibration or something i had to do depending on how it was mounted/held.
The shape is designed to mount on a steady stand.

A 20 oz fish...maybe OK
A 15 lb bike: no way.
thank you all for the replies-- i am glad it is just the stability factor and not something weird with my scale. i will stop trying to be a tough guy from now on.
glad i got the stand, though, as now all my bikes are 200 grams lighter...!!

I had a similar experience with PCS-10. Depending on where I hooked the bike from (middle of the top tube vs the saddle) the measured weight had 2-3 oz difference (BTW, I got a replacement and had the same experience.) I am guessing the issue is caused by having a wide two hooked design. When the center of gravity shifts, the hooks can easily touch the inner side of the handle, affecting the measurement.
Ended up returning it back...
