question about spacer/bearing cover on Supersix Evo

As Valbrona has mentioned you can get a different thickness split ring (collet). The bike shop may have slightly slimmer one that'll drop the upper bearing cover.

Bear in mind some headsets come with a rubber gasket attached to the upper bearing cover so the gap is there but can't be seen and the upper bearing is protected from the elements.

I gather from what @mean says that this was a brand new frame & headset. So while I agree that this is probably a cosmetic issue. We are not really sure that it's not misaligned also which would be much more serious. Cosmetic can be fudged over, not so much misalignment. Either way it points to a quality problem with the frame.

If the vendor is offering a replacement, I'd be taking it.
