Winter jacket choice
Moderator: robbosmans
Hi all,
I’m facing to a dilemma, I’m looking for a winter jacket for temperatures around 0°C at the lowest and always humid (Paris area). I have to precise that I do not get cold easily from my upper body. I selected:
1. Assos Mille GT winter Ultraz (may be too warm ?)
2. Assos Mille GT winter (to me between a winter jacket and a long sleeve jersey, but is it warm enough below 3°C ?)
3. Castelli Perfetto RoS (I already have a Gabba with Nanoflex arm warmer, it is may be a non sense to have both ?)
4. Anything else ?
PS: purely subjective but I'm not a big fan of the Castelli Alpha RoS
Based on your experience, wich one would you go for ?

I have both Mille GT Winter Ultraz and Mille GT Winter.
Ultraz will be too warm for 0*C or warmer. I wear it at -5*C or colder.
So you can eliminate that one.
There is Rapha Pro Team Winter jacket (probably similar to the Castelli ROS).

You will be fine with the Mille winter jacket. Just wear a thicker baselayer once it gets cold. I used the winter jacket with a summer baselayer yesterday at 4c at that was just right. So at 0c just use a winter baselayer. At least, that is what I do.

I work at Le Col so take it with a pinch of salt but I've been alternating between the Hors Categorie 2 Jacket with the Alpha Direct lining which is good for really cold rides or the Pro Winter Jacket for rides 5-8C.
The Pro Winter Jacket is very similar to the Gabba with a membrane that has a windproof lining and is technically waterproof (or a very heavy shower). The new HC Jacket is great for 0-5C and you can just alternate a base layer as need be. Recently rode it in -2 (-8 with the windchill) with just a base layer and short sleeve jersey underneath, the Polartec Alpha is something else

What didn't you like about the Alpha RoS? I have both the regular and the light version. The regular version is downright toasty at 0C.
Why you don't have more pieces with membranes, e. g. from Gore?Tifosiphil wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 10:01 amI work at Le Col so take it with a pinch of salt but I've been alternating between the Hors Categorie 2 Jacket with the Alpha Direct lining which is good for really cold rides or the Pro Winter Jacket for rides 5-8C.

It might not be as fashionable as the other choices in the thread however I've been very impressed with the Van Rysel RCR Winter Xtreme https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/very-cold ... mc=8644566
Windproof, breathable and water-repellent and is rated down to -5 degrees. I've used it in 2 degree weather so far with just a base layer and it was loveley and warm. Fit's really well and doesn't flap in the wind.
