From the top image - The freehub bearings have collapsed if the freehub body is off centre.

^In the 3rd and 4th pictures you can see parts of the free hub which shredded off. I lost the small shards which showed the inner threads. The deep gouging must have occurred just before the hub failed (play?) as the freehub was pristine a few weeks ago.

Does the axle smoothly rotate through the body OK? If so then the hub bearings should be OK.

Does the freehub body smoothly freewheel OK? If so the freehub body bearings should be OK.

The bite / shred marks all over the freehub spines look like the cassette was moving on the body ie) maybe lockring was not correctly torqued?

^No axle rotation.

Freehub essentially came off the hub body. Wheel rubs against chainstay in the dropouts.

Before failing, I now recall that there were a few instances when the chain seemed to skip on steep grades.

I previously used a 12T CK lockring for a 12-27 cassette. A few months back I swapped out to an 11-29 using the 11T CK lockring.

First of all, well done. That is impressive, no matter how you did it.

Take is apart and get a load of in-focus photos of the various parts. Would love to see what is going on inside.

I'm currently now on my 4th Campy freehub for my three year old Chris King rear hub. Each freehub cracked, causing chain slipping/slap & inability to spin in reverse. I'm not blessed with the technical knowledge help you with your problem, but might be something to look in to, as they are generally hairline cracks. Good luck.

you may need to replace the wheel bearings as well as the entire free hub. i've never seen that destroyed like that...and it doesn't look water related from riding in the rain.

I had also a problem with the rear hub R45 Campagnolo, bearings exploded in 5 tkm and 2,5 year, minimal of rain seen.

Talked to my LBS, would not help me and also CK left me in the cold, reason with those kilometers and years they have been serviced......

I am very disappointed in the product Chris King, will never buy it again bad product!
