I've seen it with a ultegra crank as well.
If you want to see 'meh' content of me and my bike you can follow my life in pictures here!'Tape was made to wrap your GF's gifts, NOT hold a freakin tire on.'

I thought there would be screws holding the two halves together in addition to the adhesive...

Bit more than cosmetic, but luckily the failure mode is ideal to simply Loctite it back in place.
Duct tape.....

This happened to my DA9000 Crankset. And no, it had nothing to do with the Pioneer

I had a duraace 9000 crankset fail. No power meter.
Seems like the epoxy that holds the crank together.
Took off from the light, heard a crack, and noticed a whole lot of flex through the crank.
It didn't separate completely though, but I imagine had I put some power through it at the time it would have.

It seems this is due to corrosion, humidity and salt?
Perhaps in conjunction with a twisting load when we pedal it work itself off or in some cases crack?
So Shimano Hollow Technology is bascially a U-profile with a reversed U-profile glued on?

Interesting you say failure due to salt.... I had a highend mtn bike bullseye rimset hand built and they lasted 15 years with zero problems until I moved to Florida... After that the flange on the rear hub cracked and failed....After which I come to find out that Bullseye had a small clause about salt weather on the hubs and failure if they were exposed too long in such climates....

Hi there,
Hollowtech is a hollow forged crank.
Hollowbond is a crank made of two hollow shells bonded together.
DA9000, DA9100, Ul6800 and XTRM9000Race are Hollowbond, all other cranks are, to my knowledge, Hollowtech.
