Shimano also started making OEM Tiagra/105 level crankset with same spacing as R9100:
FC-RS510 (non hollow crank arms)
it can be paired with upcoming FD-5801/new ultegra/FD-R9100 (not for FD-5800/6800/9000)

@F45, no info on ultegra branded hubs, new unbranded thru-axle centerlock hubs:
FH-RS770 (302 g; vs old QR hub FH-CX75 325 g)
HB-RS770 (125 g; vs old QR hub HB-CX75 166 g)
they are replacing cyclocross hubs

thanks for the info.

I don't uds the new spacing. Chain Line is the same as FC-6800... while Q factor is wider (pedals will be further apart that's what I uds).

Does new spacing means it's better to cope with 135 OLD with 405 chainstay?

Q-factor is the same: old dura-ace 146, new dura-ace 146, old ultegra 146.6, new ultegra 146
It only affects chainline a little bit by ≈0.2mm (½×0.3mm±chainrings offset/width changes)

Yes, when using small-small chainrings and OLD=135 new FD/FC can get away with ~5mm shorter chainstay:
(recommendations: ≥410 for R9100, ≥415 for 6800)

fc-r9100-vs-other.png

Inner chainring (x3) spacing 0.3mm closer to bb (37.8 vs 38.1):
(chainline=0.5*(x2+x3+chainring); width≈chain 2/32"≈2.4mm)

The adjustability of the front mech seems like a great idea(no inline adjusters), also the outgoing 6800 front mech was always a bit of a pain to set up…. If it follows the DA trend hopefully you’ll see a 11-30 cassette, for those of us that prefer spinning uphill. Doing some of the Liege Bastogne Liege climbs on a 39x30 rear sounds almost bearable.

I was in the same boat. Don't wait for new Ultegra, get Dura Ace 9000 instead. Ever since 9100 was released, price has been dipping on 9000. Act now before it's gone.

I've just updated my middle-grade bike to 9100 (mechanical). Went for the DA 11-30 cassette - very nice for steep hills (22% out of the door of my house!!). LBS tried the Ultegra 11-32 on a different customers bike with the new DA 9100 rear mech and it apparently worked fine.

11-34 cassette, interesting. We'll probably see some mid cages then? I wonder what's the release date on the group, I'm still waiting for R9170/eTap HRD; I might wait for the new Ultegra if it's not too much time apart.

I do hope they quit making Ultegra looking sooooo boring as it does today. It really screams 'boring middle of the road'. They should look at Sram and Campy, where the second groupset in the lineup looks almost the same as the #1.

I talked to someone from Shimano Belgium and the new Ultegra group will be available in august. On new bikes that could already be july.

I dont have a date. There is always a product launch were we (as bikeshops) our invited to. But they cant tell us too much at this moment, that's how it works ;-).

In the past pictures leaked on the internet months before the official launch, so you probably dont have to wait long to see the new ultegra. Trek for example has their new models ready in july, so it cant be very long before the new ultegra group goes out to the manufacturers. We just have to wait for a leak :P
