Low weight aluminum rims?
Moderator: robbosmans
Playing around with ideas for a set of light weight wheels for my races with the most climbing.
Want aluminum rims and think my choices are basically:
Ambrosio Crono F20
Mavic Reflex
IRD Cadence
or buy a used set of American Classic 350's just for the rims.
Am I missing anything? Any favorites? These will be with White Industry hubs, 28 CXRays 2x, and I'm 140lbs/ 63.5 kg.
TIA,
Peter

Doesn't really matter. Ideally they'd be clinchers (lower rolling resistance, more convenient) but since they will only be used for races it's not that big a deal.
Mavic or 7

As to extend your list personally for clinchers I do find the Alex rims pretty interesting too.

AC350 365 grams- 80 euros each plus shipping from Germany.
I know which one I would buy
Is the Alex rim OK for the rear too, or is it a front only rim? And how do you find the breaking surface?
Also, I should have clarified that I'm only interested in rims that are currently in production.
Thanks for the suggestions! looking like the Alex R3.1, the Ambrosio, and the AC 350 are the finalists so far... Although, if the Mavic Reflex really only weighs 370, it would be considered as well- love the Mavic breaking surface.

You don't really have to have the offest rear specific rims for the rear. You could always just get the 3.1 and dish the spokes differently (just like any other rim). But bikemessenger could tell you that for sure as he is a wheel building guru.
