i am running a 2014 Athena setup. My front chainrings are a little worn. The avialabilty of black Athena compact cranks (175MM) is getting a little sparse.
So..i am wondering what my other upgrade paths are (without upgrading my total gruppo)
I am thinking about an 11 speed chorus crank, or an 11 speed Potenza crank. Any thoughts / suggestions?

Why don't you just replace the chainrings?

Athena has been both UT and PT, you don't say which you have. Or the BB type.

I replaced the rings on mine, but my experience might not be useful to you.

One.

So let's just say I'm drivin' this buggy...

You may get a crankset cheaper than a set of replacement rings:

Several crank lenghts and colours available. Specwise the Fulcrum is somewhere in the Chorus range. Works well with a 11sp setup too.

Another good choice is the Comp One.

I've got the Comp Ultra and it looks and feels great - not fully built up the bike yet - but the only word of warning - the special tool required to install and remove is getting scarce...

My Athena 11speed setup is of the dreaded Powertorque type. Buying a Big (50) and small (34) chainring will set me back approximately 150 euro.
with that amount in mind. Isnt it better to buy an 11 speed Potenza crankset, or Chorus?

Potenza sounds great (because i can remove the crank myself).. but will it run on a 11peed Athena setup?

Why not?

Power Torque is rubbish, Ultra Torque is great but is was only on the 2010 Athena if I'm correct. I have 2 bikes, 2 Athena groups, PT 2014 and UT 2010 but I would change both for a Potenza because it looks great and has the benefit of having one cranckset for normal and compact setup.

so, two chainrings are more expensive than a whole new chainset?

then buy a compact campag chainset in any length, and use the chainrings.

sell the arms which you do not need :)

oh, or you can even get a whole new chainset for 100euros?
ps: if you just un-screw the rings, you can change them without de-mounting the crank arms.. more convenient.

Thanks for the suggestion. 120 euro for : http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Campagnolo- ... Sw-tNXIbe8 is ridiculously cheap. But from Taiwan. Is this legit? At this price it is almost too good to be true.
