I went in to my LBS to pick up my new Lake CX 402's and saw these. I picked up a pair and they were so feathery light, I was blown away. I immediately bought a pair in my size.
They appear to be really well made and fit my size 48 foot perfectly.
The 402's are heavier, but come with dual Boas, Leather uppers and lining and heat mouldable carbon soles. I have no doubt the 402's will be super comfy for long rides, but for race day and hills rides the 301's will do the trick.

The weights below are all size 48 with no cleats fitted.

What is the instep like? I've got some cx237's which I like but have seen better days!

Same size for both models?

@Boardman - the instep seems the same as the 402's and you can get Lakes mouldable insole for about $70 if you want a semi custom fit.
The single boa on the 301 does not provide the same adjustability or comfort level as the 402's but they are still really comfy. They feel better than my Bontrager RXLs and have a similar comfort to my S Works shoes.
I've only done 1 ride with them so far and I do expect the comfort will improve as the uppers soften slightly.
The feeling of "lightness" with these shoes is taking some getting used to. It almost feels like you don't have shoes on.
One of the reasons I bought them is that they are not leather like the 402's and should dry quicker if they get wet.
Our summers are very dry and warm, so it might be a few months before I get to test this out (spring here now)

Sorry, I guess I should've phrased it as, "Do they fit the same?" I'm looking to pick up a pair of the 402s, and I'm really torn about the sizing. I'm unable to get my hands on a pair locally, so I'll be forced to order online. Due to my location, returns are a pita, so I'm hoping to get it right first time around.

Either way, nice shoes!

The 4x shoes are supposed to be built around a different, smaller last than the 3x ones. I fit necely in the 301s, but find the 402s too narrow.

Thanks for the info. This is exactly what I had read, and based on that and Lake's fitting chart, I'm leaning towards the wide model.

237 has more relaxed fit than 331/332/402 etc
sole on 237 is naturally wider even on regular width shoes ( same for regular and wide sizes)
The other models have different sole for regular and wide sizes

I have quite narrow feet. The 301 and 402 both fit me very well.
The removable footbed in each shoe looks very similar with the same arch support. When I put them on the arch support feels the same to me.

The 402 has an additional rubbery lining under the removable footbed which raises the stack height of the shoe by about about 3mm over the 301 which has bare carbon under the footbed.
I resolved the stack height discrepancy by ordering a Speedplay leg length shim kit which is supplied with 2 x 3.175mm (1/8 inch) spacers.

The 402 is definitely the more supple and comfortable shoe, with better adjustability with the dual Boa design opposed to the single Boa on the 301.
The 402 has replaceable toe bumpers which are quite substantial and a bigger heel pad than the 301.
The 301 is a very "minimalistic" shoe in comparison to the 402, but then the weight saving of 136g (272g for the pair) is pretty substantial considering my S works shoes weigh 282g per shoe.
A pair of 301's are 136g lighter than my SWorks shoes.

I bought the 301's for racing 40-45 min crits and masters road races which are 60-80km long and hill climbing, and I have no plans to use them for long days in the saddle, although I will try them on some longer rides to test the comfort level.
In Australia the 301's are Aud $300 and the 402's are Aud $500, so there is a large price difference between them.

@boysa
It's great to give something back to WW After all the great info I've read on here over the years.
It is interesting that we obsess about the weight of parts on the bike, but it is also quite interesting to see how much weight can be saved on the kit we wear - shoes, helmets, gloves, sunglasses, bibs and jerseys.

sorry for the revive of this old thread..
I'm looking into buying some Lake's online.. I fit a shimano size 46, and Bontrager classique size 46. Should I order a Lake 46 or 46,5?

thanks!
But I could be wrong
