Large sram force shifter weight difference - how come?
Moderator: robbosmans
Hey
Can you guys help me explain how come the weight is so different from the specified, even the confirmed ww listed weights?
It's about a 10 speed set of force shifters. According to sram they should be 303gr but I measure 327gr.
Is it possible that some parts have been exchanged to heavier ones?
These shifters have the reach adjust set screws. (I didnt see them at first)
I'm wondering if they are rival/apex shifters with a force housing or something.

Erroneous post [emoji28]
The shift lever seems to be magnesium which is right (not magnetic, not carbon). Brake lever is super light so I assume it's carbon. The worn off spots don't show a shiny surface like the shift lever.
The clamps and bolts/recessed nuts are steel, (magnetic).
Sound right?

Fwiw, my pre 2012 red shifters weighed 295g with clamps and hoods.
10spd apex weighed 326g.
When I installed switched from apex to red I noticed that the plastic bodies for the hoods and the internals seemed to be identical so I feel the weight savings must come entirely from switching the lever bodies from alloy to carbon

Doesn't force have aluminium shift paddles and carbon brake levers? If there was a version which hade magnesium paddles, maybe that one was lighter than the aluminium version? (but not 30g, though magnesium is 1.74/2.7=0.64 times the weight of aluminium)
The shifter bodys should be the same for almost all of the SRAM range.
