Folks....I'm fast approaching my 50th birthday this year and my good lady has given the green light for a new bike. :-) Being my 50th, I would like something a little special. I normally ride Italian, but really open to any suggestions. a couple of frames which could possibly be on my short list is a Sarto Lampo custom , Colnago C60, Legend 11.5 or a Parlee Z Zero. Any suggestions would be much appreciated...thanks in advance :-)

Carbon option: Colnago C60 (traditional geometry please) or Sarto Seta or Legend 11.5 with Campagnolo groupset and Bora ultra or Meilenstein wheels.
Steel option: Italian steel frame (Colnago, De Rosa, Cinelli, Chesini, Daccordi, Pegoretti, Scapin... lots of options really), Campagnolo groupset and Hyperon ultra or Gipfelsturm wheels.
I would probably go for steel...

Best looking bike on the market is that XR4.

Ridiculously special looking. Makes everything else in the peloton look a decade older.

Pegoretti, Baum, parlee, or c60...

I'm a few months away from 50 myself. I went all out on a mosaic gravel bike.. but if I was going road, one of the above would of beeen my choice.

I've had an interest in Sarto for some time, but I've never actually seen one in person. It would be very unique, at least where I live, and they seem superbly made. I believe they supply the unbranded test bikes for Campagnolo Test Labs, so you know it should work with Campy if you go that route. Take your time and look at and think through all the details through to the final build. Like cable routing... on some frames where the seat stays join the seattube significantly below where a relatively horizontal top tube meets the seattube, the rear brake cable routing can be very awkward. It's amazing to me how things like this seem to sometimes be an afterthought to manufacturers. Seems like you could really get things dialed in with a Sarto custom, having everything just the way you want it. They look stunningly finished, and appropriately "beefy". I like that so much more than some of those skinny sipping straw seat stays you see on some frames. They look so out of place against the other tubes, which are generally much bigger dimension wise. The C60 is solid, and it's reputation preceeds it, so not much need be said there. You either like it or you don't. Plus, you have to find a color scheme you'd like, which can be difficult. The Sartos seem to have a whole bunch of pretty nice looking solor schemes as well, and their carbon weave is gorgeous. Geez, now I want one.

I was in the same situation as you. Just 20 years younger. I did go for etap, lightweight and a Baum frame. But that was because I wanted to try ti and because I love their paint schemes.

But if I should go the carbon route I would go Sarto or Argonaut. And of cause campagnolo on the sarto.

we have had a Lampo and a Ferox TT bike available for test riding during 2016!
the Lampo is a great ride - it doesn't feel particularly quick when you're on it, but when you load up your data, then there always appear to be a lot of PBs!!
the Ferox is just quick quick quick!!

another one to look at would be Epoca - the R60 for aero road - the R50 for standard road - the R30 for climbing!!

Turned 50 last year, but decided that I would treat myself to the new special build now.

I considered a C60, an Argonaut and a Lightweight Urgestalt (I know, three very different frames). In the end went with a Seven 622 SLX as I'm quite partial to Ti but had an itch to get back to carbon so a mix of the two felt like the best of both worlds! Took advantage of a summer sale at Ribble for a great price on Dura Ace Di2 and was lucky enough to be able to leverage the strength of the US dollar against the British pound to get a set of Lightweight Meilenstein Schwarz tubulars for about 30% less than I would pay in the US. Frame is in production now so if all goes according to plan I should be posting a ride report later this month!
Current: Seven 622 SLX | Seven OVRLND XX | Fondriest Carbon Magister | Yeti SB100 |
Retired: Litespeed T5G | Seven Axiom SL| Seven Mudhoney SL|S Works Crux |Fat CAAD 1 |

I think I will also add a Bianchi Specialissima into the mix.

Nice looking frame and a great performer accorfing to the reviews but nothing really 'special'. Certainly not for a 50th birthday present. It will look boring and dated in a couple of years...
