Rim vs Disc brakes according to GCN

So I was surfing around and came across this video from about a year ago:

They compare SRAM's road disc brakes versus caliper rim brakes, however they use carbon wheels for both. The stopping differences are not that large in the various conditions they experimented with. The largest difference came in "very wet" conditions, and was ~7 meters (in favor of disc). I'm wondering if this is really all down to the braking surface rather than the type of braking system? Seems like a more useful comparison would have been to include some alloy rim wheels.

The challenge faced by GCN in making this video was that Reynolds do not make aluminium rim wheels.

You're right. Though the Reynold's web site does not show any rim brake alu rims among its products from 2015.
