I haven't read the long document but can someone tell me if this system is like the SRAM eTap or the FSA system (i.e. Partially wired)?

Could this be a optional upgrade to R9150 di2?

As I said in the FSA thread, "partial" wireless makes good sense as well, so no real surprise that Shimano might go this route. This also might suggest that at least the latest di2 might be upgradeable to "semi-wireless" with a wireless transmitting junction+shifters combo, which would be really awesome. On the other hand, at least from Shimano wheels history, they haven't really cared of backwards compatibility (think all 7800 and 7900 wheels of 10 speed only, however, the 91xx di2 junctions are promised to be compatible with 90xx), so all of this, of course, only speculation at the moment.
Minimum bike categories required in the stable:
Aero bike | GC bike | GC rim bike | Climbing bike | Climbing rim bike | Classics bike | Gravel bike | TT bike | Indoors bike

I think that still is soon to this, It could be implemented with the new XT Di2.........Shimano maybe surprise us when it released the new R9150

or maybe wait for the renewal of the Ultegra....?????

I would say the XT first, then maybe Ultegra. The link to those patents was on a MTB forum last month.

cant really get my head around why you would want semi wireless? since full wireless is on the market would it not make sence to follow that route. Semi wireless i think just eliminates the one wire that connects the front junction to the rear junction. Maybe i have missed something?

I have not read text, but looking at pics it's more like backward compatible wireless sender-receiver parts for wired di2.

I think it is worse than both FSA and Sram, may be FSA/Sram patents prevents Shimano from doing it the other way?

the date most ancient of that document is from the year 2013

do not think that shimano, have problems with patents of FSA or Sram

with Shimano updates regarding new features the Di2 wireless, it has easy, the communication between control unit and shifters on one of new d-fly and new battery, regardless of the cable between control unit and junction b
