For my new bike I need a set of Keo pedals. Since I don't like the looks of the Blade 2, I'm thinking about the Blade 1. They are still for sale if you look properly.

Please share your opinions, any good? Or would it be better to choose Keo 2 Max carbon?

I had a pair and liked them but eventually they cracked where the blade is held in. A friend had this happen to two pairs before giving up on them. I have the blade 2 and they have lasted much better.

Lots of reports on breakages on the body of the pedals too (though it didn't happen to me), just go for blade 2.

I have the Look Keo Blade 2 Ti 16Nm spring tension. It is a much better design than the Blade 1. I am looking for another set for a new build.

It's all downhill from here, except for the uphills.

Blade 2 have a noticeably wider platform which provides more pedalling stability and feeling of power transfer

OTOH I have had more issues with the bearings in Blade 2 than I ever had in Blade 1 (i.e. zero issues)

I'm going to switch from Speedplays to either the Look or Shimano pedals. From what I have gather the Shimano Dura Ace is heavier than the Look but far more reliable. Too bad Shimano doesn't make one with Ti spindles. I'll gladly pay more for the weight savings. I'll be picking up two pairs of the new Dura Ace pedals when they come out.

I resist the lure of these pedals. They break to easy. I can put a lot of power down and cannot justify a purchase. Are many pros using them?

Do you mean pros riding Blade 1s? Not any more. Look sponsored riders are normally on Blade 2s. But when Blade 1s where new they were all on them, including Lance ...

I was tempted and if I was getting mine for free its not a issue. But when you have to pay for stuff it " expensive stuff " it really should work.
I love speedplay pedals but I cannot justify " to the wife" the amount of money I was spending on the cleats. They just did not last more then a month or 2. Thanks for the info.

I have quite a lot of kms (50000+) on 1st gen Blades (one Titanium set, the other CroMo), so far they have held up pretty well.

Trouble is, there aren't any similar lightweight alternatives (tried Tririg Mercury but abandoned them after the self-unscrewing incidents) although I'm tempted to try Time Xpresso soon...

DuraAce, of course, is a bombproof choice (I've got ten years old PD-7801, still going strong), but you give up 70 grams over Blade Ti, which by WW standards is quite a lot.

It looks You Always have something odd to write . . .
What are you doing with them when they only last 2 months?

I loved them. My favourite pedals. if I was getting them for free [change cleats monthly in that case] or at a reasonable cost I would have kept using them. I used them for around a year or so nearly crashed twice due to there failure so eventually decided to switch to Keo's for the reasons mentioned .
