I have no idea why commercially it would make sense to bet the farm on the Altium as it doesn't fit with my view of what the parlee brand stands for.

Don't forget how terrible the cable routing was on the Z5 too.

I have a Z5 SLi. Two of them actually. It's a fantastic bike, the best road bike I've owned. When the Altum first came out I looked at that hunchback and said NFW. But it is growing on me. I still prefer the classic lines of the Z5 but there could be an Altum for me in the future. No doubt Parlee is transitioning from boutique, custom carbon frame builder to a higher volume company built around the (offshore manufactured) Altum, Altum Disc and Chewbacca, and carbon components (bars, stems, posts).

Note that the new Specialized Roubaix and BMC Roadmachine also have a similar headtube cap in varying sizes to achieve a range of stack heights.

I love my Z5 SLI...BB is dead quiet (parlee campy adapter cups) and the routing is a pain, but my LBS get's it done. Like many owners, the tire clearance is the biggest issue.

So, I called Calfee to see if they could create additional clearance in the chainstays. I should have frame back in the next week or so with enough room for 28mm tires.

cut, reangle and reinforce is what i was told...hard to explain. all this and keeping the internal route in tact. 10 year warranty on the work.

i should be getting a pic of what it looks like prior to completion and will post.

do you mind telling me the cost ? PM is fine.... and are they repainting ? Unfortunately my Z5 is custom paint but not terribly complicated.

I fit 25s on my Z5 SLi. Conti GP4000SII on bike #1 (C24 rims) and Vittoria Corsa G+ on bike #2 (C35 rims). The Conti's just barely fit. Barely. If the rear wheel isn't in completely straight, they will rub the chainstay. There is a little bit more room with the Vittorias.

I measured the tire widths with calipers and the Conti 25mm's measured 27mm and the Vittorias 26mm.

I don't know if they would fit with wider rims.

conti 25s will rub with my enve 6.7.. my 4.5 are wider so I run 23s. I run Veloflex arenburgs tubs (25) on my 2.2 are they barely fit. I would love to pick up 7.8s since I sold my 6.7... but the rear is too wide of a rim, just not worth it.

Is there a big difference between the Altum and Altum R?
If the Altum is really stiff and unforgiving, than I should buy an R before it's gone.

I have just bought an Altum (also have the Z5 SLi) and it's not a stiff and unforgiving ride, especially with 25mm tyres.. It really is an exceptional bike, very light and responsive; the instant acceleration is great.
