Hi All

I wanted to ask any of those Di2 specialists if buying the above battery rather than the older version one (SM-BTR2 Di2) has the following benefits on a Ultegra 6870 system:-

allow for wireless access to the use the E-Tube app to run what ever process on the mechs/shifters?

I am 90% complete of the system, just need to buy front and reach mech with a battery all to be installed on a P5. Issue is, I dont think there is value to buy 9070 di2 when the 9150 is ready to be shipped (and ultegra is priced very competitively for a TT bike I will use very little). It would be a sensible upgrade next year for me. But the choice of battery could end up being important if i upgrade and cannot for any reason use the SM-BTR2.

This is my first dabble into Shimano, ever.

Thanks,

The new battery has added circuitry to enable more computing options. If you ever want to customize the system wirelessly, you will need the new battery. If the new one is available then it's a no brainer.

If you want to program your Di2 wirelessly, you will need the new battery. The iOS and Android apps are not yet released to give you the wireless programming functionality but the new battery is available. In fact I got mine yesterday for my Ultegra 6870 Di2 bike to replace a battery that wasn't holding its charge anymore.

To utilize the yet to be released wireless connectivity features you will need the new battery (BT-DN110, internal) as well as the new D-Fly (EW-WU111) unit. The new battery has increased memory to support bluetooth. The D-Fly unit communicates with the wireless device.

The BT-DN110 will also allow for updated firmware for Synchronized Shift capability once the new E-Tube software is available.

Of course you will also need one of the new wireless units as well.
