Hi,

I'm looking at getting a SRAM crankset and I was curious about the hidden bolt design; it looks awesome and they claim stiffness improvements. Since Praxis now support this design and it appears to be SRAM's approach-of-choice going forward, getting chainrings won't be a problem... but have you experienced any not-obvious-at first issues I should be aware of when making my decision?

Thanks!

Sram Red Exogram cranks are excellent. No issues. Shifting is also very good. I wouldn't bother with Praxis rings. (No experience with Force or Rival cranks though.)

If you use regular chainrings with hidden bolt you just have to rotate them 180 degrees to get the right timing. But this can place the catch pin in the wrong location.

I got the standard Praxis (pre hidden bolt compatible) rings to fit with a little dremel action on the BB30 version.

That's very helpful, thanks.

I'll probably be getting the new-generation SRAM chainrings with it (the sexy matte black ones) so I think everything should be fine then. Onwards with the Red!

Wow. I hope that doesn't happen to me! Is it "common"?

Only thing i'd be aware of is ring thickness.
Rings that aren't the same thickness as the OE rings will need a spacer. Rings that are thicker may well not fit at all.

So in conclusion, then, specifically the use of the hidden versus non-hidden bolt shouldn't worry me?
