So after getting knocked off the road by a bus a couple weeks ago the brake lever on my left Dura Ace 9070 shifter is all scratched up.
Has any one replaced just the mani lever assembly assembly? (shimano tech docs says the part number is Y6X198010)

Is it a difficult job?

It looks like it might be pretty straight forward but its a bit hard to tell form the tech doc and I've never pulled a shifter lever apart before. half worried all the springs and buttons will fly out and never go back into place. but I've managed most other things as far as bike maintenance and building goes though.

heres the link to the techdoc

cheers

Might also look at the pricing. In my experience these parts are not much cheaper than an entire lever.

I did it, its easy. If your lever ain't broke I wouldn't bother fixing it.

Cheers for the advice guys. I've emailed about tye price for the lever. If it's too expensive then I'll take your advises and just live with the scratches.
Good to know it's a easy transplant though, if the price is right.

Thanks!!

Its actually a fairly easy job. The c-clip tool (Y6RT68000) makes things a bit easier, but its not necessary.

Talk about not cheap...

I got an email back the main Norwegian online shop. Just tye lever assembly is 2000kr. That's 217Euro!!! The same site sells the complete shifter for 2700kr/292 euro.
Guess I can live with some scratches for a while

Thanks for the input guys!

I've successfully polished out scratches in DA levers with my dremel and the polishing kit. Easy peasy.

Nice!! I don't have a Dremel...was thinking some 2000 grit wet and dry Emory paper might work....but was a little worried even that might be too abrasive. Worth a shot I guess

End with soft buff wheel and polishing compound.
Dremel is more controlled than by hand.

Thanks for the tips. Maybe it's worth looking into investing in a Dremel. sounds like they're pretty handy to have around
