Cables Inner and Outer upgrades Weight saving ? Performance ?
Moderator: robbosmans
Looking to re do the cables on my propel -
what the opinion on upgraded stuff, I was looking at getting the dura ace cable set inner and outer

But then you'll need gear on top of that.
Any better options out there ? or is the basic LBS stuff good enough.

Cheers for the reply, did you stick with basic outers ? Did you get them from a LBS or online ?
Seen these as well, expensive but a claimed 20% lighter ? not sure about cable run with these though !

Yes, I've cleaned the outers first but didn't replace them to try PFTE inners first. Replacing the outers is planned to make the routing a bit smoother. Running a 130mm stem slammed needs a bit more cable that it has out of the factory.
The shift routing through the frame was simple enough, the rear brake routing was a bit more fiddly but you only have to do it once so no worries.

Those Jagwires look nice as do Nokon's but when you ride all weather or dusty terrain I'm afraid you'll start hearing them at some point.

Ride it like you stole it
Have had good experience with Jagwire Pro teflon-coated kits (the black cables, braided housings). Overall a bit lighter than OEM/Shimano cables (-20g on my Scot, fwiw) and very smooth.

Jagwire makes an elite sealed kit too if you're worried about the links being noisy.

Find Tune housing. Remove outer sheath, use inner liner as your housing. You will not need a liner, either, this will be an all-in-one-housing.
Use Ti or Powercordz for weight savings.
That will be your lightest setup.

Just a small heads up if you are colour conscious: the inner sleeve of the Tune housing is white. It only comes in white and it can *NOT* be changed to a different colour... I've tried every method that would not add mass.

Got these bad boys. How do I remove the outer to be left only with the white bit?!?!?!
