Where can I find Dura Ace 9 Spd 7700 Mid Compact chainrings ?
Moderator: robbosmans
Hello all I just got a Colnago Master X-Light with Dura Ace 25th Anniversary 9 Speed 7700 group set. It has 53 / 39 chain rings that I would like to change to 52 / 36 or maybe other options if i can.
What are my options ?
Here is the Master after I made a few changes .......

Shimano rings don't go lower than 39 and will probably only be available still on eBay. For a 38 I would check Specialites TA. But with such a nice groupset I would only use the original Shimano rings. Very nice bike BTW, just not too sure about the high rims.
The difference between 53/39 and 52/38 is only one tooth. The difference from running a 28t cog instead of a 27t cog is bigger.

Good point I'm thinking of doing a 11-30 or 11-32 that should help
Thx

9 speed is very customizable. I'd lose the 11t and start with a 12t or even a 13t, fill in a 2t gap. 12t was pretty customary for standard cranks and road cassettes back then. If you can get the RD to clear, picking 32t over 30t would be like putting a 36.5t chainring on instead of a 39t, almost the equivalent of putting a mid-compact on there.

Yes. I know. I wasn't questioning the quality of the TA rings but with such a nice groupset I would go for Shimano chainrings to keep it all original. Having said that, I now see that the anniversary edition originally had silver rings as opposed to the champagne-coloured rings of the 'normal' 7700. Anniversary rings will likely be unobtainable and the TA Alizé might actually be a better match than the 'normal' 7700 rings as well as enabling a 50-38 gearing option.
I think 30t at the rear will be the absolute maximum on most dropouts: http://www.bikeforums.net/bicycle-mecha ... acity.html
