What is the best weight/$ finishing parts (seatpost/handlebar/stem) these days?
Moderator: robbosmans
Hi Everyone,
It's been a long time since I've built a bike up or done any serious upgrades. I was curious what is the best weight/$ parts these days? I'm helping a friend build a Cannondale Supersix Hi mod up. In the past I've always relied on Easton EC90 parts on closeouts/ebay. Curious to know after being out of the game for 4 years, if things have changed and if there is a preferred stem/seatpost and handlebar in this forum.
Thanks!

Imo weight/$ comparison only works if you are after mid-range items in terms of pricing, ww brand items are poor in terms of value. It's probably better for you to decide your budget and then see/find what's the lightest thing you can possibly get with that.

Preferred stem would have to be the Kalloy Uno ASA 105, about $20-25 USD and around 110g for 100mm. Decals come off easily with acetone.
Long thread on them here:

For seatposts one of the members here 2lo8 did a good write up on the GUB GS seatpost which is $15 USD and 165g when cut to 240mm, seems a good option as long as your fit works with 0 setback:

Not sure on best options if you need setback though.
Handlebars are really a matter of fit preference, but there's a few compact alloy handlebars that come in around the $60 USD and ~250g mark for a smaller size, like the Ritchey WCS Evo Curve, Deda Zero 100 or Pro PLT. All those bars should have their logos easily come off so they match with the stem.

KCNC are pretty decent £/g ratio for bars and posts. Well made and pretty solid too.

Unfortunately their lightest bar (the SC Force, 216g) only comes in an ergonomic bend with 95mm reach/145mm drop. Great weight for alloy but unlikely to be agreeable with most fits (or aesthetics).

Never minded it aesthetically, tbh, and find it pretty comfortable. 42cm bars came in at 208g on my scales.

Just recieved an identical seatpost like the one above (although bought from Aliexpress and not Ebay) and it had very poor roundness once you got within 15 or so cm of the seat clamp. The seatpost is oval 27.6mmX27.3mm. Did not pay more than 15€ for it so I won't cry when it goes into the rubbish bin.

Nice, I am looking for a carbon seatpost, how's the ride comfort with the zero offset? 280lb rider limit sounds good to me
I am trying to avoid cheap China carbon post of unknown quality
Planet-X CNC brakes are pretty light and very affordable. I also second the UNO stems, I've got a 110 that I've been using for years now without any issues at all.
Other ww stuff on the cheap - lighter bar tape ($20), Speedplay Ti spindle swap ($50), latex tubes ($10).

I had two of these, they constantly slipped, even when covered in carbon paste and WAY over torqued. If you're going for a cheap post go inline. You can lock your saddle securely and there's no slippage.
