Hello all,
My friend has a set of 11 speed Force shifters which were almost completely destroyed in a crash. Only the right hand shifting mechanism seems to work, which I've tested to be operational through all the clicks.

We now need a new set of shifters, and I have noticed that SRAM Red 2012 shifters are quite a bit ($100-150) cheaper than 11 speed shifters, so I thought about transplanting the right hand shifter guts from the destroyed shifters to the 10sp shifter.

Is this possible? Does anyone have experience regarding SRAM shifter transplants?

I've read about two WW members converting 10 sp shifters to 11, but they are both using custom cassettes that have 11 cogs with 10sp spacing. So that doesn't really apply here.

Thanks.

I've seen somewhere someone taking the internal mechanism from a Rival22 (on their cross bike) and upgrading their 10 speed sram red. Can't remember where I saw it (sorry).
I write the weightweenies blog, hope you like it :)

Disclosure: I'm sponsored by Velocite, but I do give my honest opinion about them (I'm endorsed to race their bikes, not say nice things about them)

I've done it a few times. Works perfectly.

so @dudemanppl do you basically just take a donor ratchet from an 11speed and chuck it in the 10speed shifter body?

Gonna try it as soon as I get my hands on a new set of shifters. Thanks everyone.

Yup, its super simple. Takes like 5 minutes if you've done it before.

I've gone into it, and disassembled the shifters completely.
The ratchet wheels are identical in size, only the number of teeth are different.
The rest of the shifter mechanism is slightly longer for the Force shifter, so the Force shifter gubbins don't fit inside the Red shifter body.

Thanks all for your input.
