2010 Specialized Allez Re-build & Upgrade
Moderator: robbosmans
Hi Everyone-
I've been meaning to post this up for over a year, so some of the details may be lost to the fog of time. Similarly, I've learned a great deal since completing the build, so some parts seem a bit goofy. I hope you enjoy anyhow.
I purchased a 2010 Allez in the spring of 2011, on sale, for <$500. I did so to participate in my first triathlon alongside friends from work. I knew nothing about bikes, cycling, or triathlon. I assume it was the lowest model available. I did two triathlons with friends, then dropped it to foray into auto racing.
In 2014, I couldn't afford auto racing anymore and I signed up for another triathlon with another work friend. I liked it, did some more, bought a tri bike, and joined a cycling club. Most of my riding was done on the old Allez with the club. I got more into cycling. I wanted a new bike, but the Allez frame seemed fine to me, so I upgraded most all the parts on it. I enjoy learning new things, so I did it myself in my garage with the internet as an adviser.
The crowd here is pretty knowledgeable, so I'll just post weights and photos. I'm happy to answer any questions. I painted it gold just to see what it would look like

This POS is probably just as fast as any $5K bike on the market.
Strange times when a bike with carbon wheels and full Ultegra group set is considered a POS.
I definitely had a good hard think about whether or not to buy a whole new bike. I couldn't come up with a convincing argument to replace the frame, so I bought "upgrades" that I could move over to a new frame in the future.
Of course, I've since bought a new frame and all new parts to put on it

Just wondering, is the seat tube under the collar painted?
But love what you did to it! Enjoy it and happy ridding
The seat tube is not painted under the collar. I hung the bike by the seat to paint it.
