I persisted with Look pedals and bearing changes / regreases / body cracks, for 3 years and 4 pairs before giving up and going with Shimano Dura Ace.
Best extra 50g I ever put on my bike.

Any pedals using cartridge bearings should be avoided like the plague. This is absolutely NOT the place for cartridge bearings.
So, this is...
Look
Time
Powertap P1
Exustar
etc.
Shimano or Speedplay are the ONLY option if you want the bearings to last more than a single ride without developing play that you can feel with your hands.
Anyone who says their cartridge bearing pedals have no play is lying.
OP; new bearings will cost you about 10 dollars. Take this 10 dollars from your wallet, and put it together with a load more dollars, and buy Shimano or Speedplay and never ever have to make threads like this again.
