Hi,

Looking for some advice here!

So I just bought a pair of Enve wheels on eBay which use the Enve carbon hub.

Checking the front wheel over I noticed that there is some play/movement in it when fitted.

Upon removing the end caps I could see that there bearings on one side look correctly pressed in but on the other side the sealed bearing unit easily slides out as though the shell is too big for it.

This video hopefully shows what I mean:

There was some damage to the shipping box which might suggest damage occurred in transit but I’d be surprised at how this could occur.

I’m also suspicious as the front wheel was shipped with the skewer fitted (perhaps to hold things together) while the rear wheel had the skewer removed and taped to the spokes.

The seller is claiming no responsibility and says that it’s an issue with the bearings and that a replacement set will fix it.

I totally disagree and think that the carbon shell has been damaged at some point and that bearings now simple won’t fit tightly enough.

I’d be interested to know the forums thoughts on this.

Can provide more pics and details if needed.

Thanks! :beerchug:

If used, was this declared at all in the listing? Or post the listing.

If used and not declared then I'd say you have a case with eBay. Don't wait to file a dispute, there's a time limit.

Thanks for the replies.

They are second hand and were advertised as such. Listing is:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ENVE-SMART-70-60-CLINCHER-WHEELS-CARBON-/262495586512?ssPageName=ADME:X:RRNTB:GB:3160

I've already raised a case with eBay as they've reached me damaged which the seller should take responsibility for but isn't.

Interestingly the hubs are also labelled with 'Test Sample AO24', can anyone confirm what this means? It doesn't sound good to me...

I looked over the ad. Nothing declared there.

As for the price, all I can say is ouch.

You are buying a very expensive item from Italy from a seller who has recently been accused of fakery and has a 67% rating. Are you nuts?

Sorry to sound harsh. Are they genuine?

The feedback accusing of fakery was left after I purchased the wheels so I was not able to see it.

His feedback is 67% because he only has three feedback in the past 12 months and one is now negative.

I believe the rims are genuine and the hubs are prototypes. Just waiting for Enve to get back to me in writing.

eBay and PayPal usually have good buyer protection so I think there's a pretty reasonable chance I'll be covered.

Just thought I'd post on here in case anyone else knew more about this sort of thing or was thinking about buying the other Enve wheels he now has for sale.

Sorry, I see the date thing now.

New bearings are not going to be any different in size, so sellers answer looks like a play for time. eBay will probably suggest you try to resolve the issue with the seller. I'm still smelling a ratty aroma.

The difficulty is that to get a refund, the seller will want them returned. So you will then need to pay for a very confirmed shipping system, to prevent the seller saying he never received them (happened to me).

good luck.

Thanks :)

I believed that the returns process involved using a postage label and details printed from eBay so that it was all recorded etc. I will double check all of this before returning though to be sure.

I'm also led to believe that eBay usually sides with the buyer in these situations, did you raise your issue with eBay?

Considering the fact that they're labeled as a test sample, it could be they're unpainted prototype hubs. You can see the 3k(looks like 3k to me) weave on the hub flange in a few of the photos and the unidirectional in the middle, which you can see also in this page on Enve's website http://enve.com/journal/all-about-road-hubs/. I'm probably wrong considering the bloke's track record on eBay but it might be something to think about and maybe contact enve about just to double check, good luck with it all!

Thanks and Enve have now confirmed that they're prototype hubs.

I'm in the process of returning them, just need to make sure I'm covered in case he tries anything else.

Just to update this thread.

Enve confimed in writing that they were prototype hubs never meant for general sale.

After a lot of hassle the wheels were returned and I was refunded by eBay.

The user on eBay was - titta3013

They have now appeared on eBay again:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Enve-Smart-Wh ... 2250393605

It's a different username but it's the same wheels and probably the same guy - clacl9828-su8xeqebr

Would avoid...
