I have an Alpina 36x45 Headset at present. The bike is a Terry Dolan Preffisio.

45x45 appears to be the standard sizing and I am struggling to find alternatives. This is a wet weather bike so it gets abuse.

Can anyone make a recommendation? UK retailers please

The 45/45 you refer to is usually used when describing a "Campag' fit headset, which is 41.8mm outer diameter.

The 36/45 is commonly found on Cane Creek integrated headsets, and measures 41mm outer diameter.

If it's the Cane Creek style you have, then those bearings are readily available, in both normal steel, and longer lasting, and more expensive, stainless steel.
You may find it easier, and the same price, to buy a complete integrated headset, and drop the bearings from that in. Put plenty grease all around the lower one. If you ride without mudguards in the UK the lower bearings don't last very long. Putting lots of grease on the seats will at least mean that you can get them out easily when replacing them!
