adding weight to reach 6.8kg

My girlfriend (BMC SLR01 owner) is planning on racing a UCI race this year and needs to add weight to her bike to reach 6.8kg (around 800g). Any ideas on weights that could be added in the seat tube or around the BB area to accomplish this??

Looking at your build, I'd recommend getting a burlier stem and maybe like a SRAM 1130 or Shimano 5800 cassette, that would be 150-200g right there already.

cassette I can do, stem is working great and don't want to accidentally change the position on the bike by switching that out. good ideas. She will use a heavy set of 808 wheels and clip-on aero extensions for the TT stage, and potentially keep the 808s for the criterium stage, but 3 RR stages require the bike to be set up like this. Ideally there is a solution for adding BB weight? I think that would help keep the center of gravity low while meeting minimum weight.

I guess they will not add much but what about some heavier skewers?

Skewers can add a lot of weight if you get some old school steel internal cam skewers. Some are over 200g per pair, so that's +170g.

As far as I know, there's nothing off the shelf like that. It's not exceptionally difficult to do, but it does requiring having some custom machining done if you want it done well. The closest you would get would be to try and find a pipe expander that small.

2lo8 and jeffy, thanks for the advice. not trying to switch out too many components. the cages, tape, garmin mount, etc, etc, etc work really well. cassette and skewers are an easy switch that could add up to maybe 200g?

had never come across a pipe expander before but trying to find something that will fit inside the GXP spindle now

Pipe expanders are just like the expander plugs in a carbon fork steerer, except they're big, heavy and made of steel. They're used to expanding exhaust pipes so you can join them and slip one over the other.

A Vivax Assist will easily get the bike over 6.8 kg. And most of the weight is fairly low on the bike, in the seat tube and BB area, right where you want it. The extra W's you get more than pay for the extra g's.

Let the commissaires weigh the bike all they want. Beyond that, what they don't know won't hurt them.

I thought an onboard camera counts now... a go pro or a virb would be easy weight to add and get some cool footage at the sametime.

Make sure the extra weight is not rotational weight.

This should be 1.1kg worth of lead shot. You could make a holder (bag or something) and secure it in the seat tube above the BB, just make sure it doesn't touch the spindle.
