Hello,

my 1st generation Evo will take no more than a 27mm wide tire in the back.

Currently I run SRAM S30 Race wheels with 15mm inner width and Conti 4000s II 25mm (real width ~26mm).

Assuming I changed to HED Ardennes+ with 20,5mm inner width and Conti 4000s II 23mm, would that improve ride quality? Could the tire pressure really be reduced by 1 bar (15psi) as some claim? Or will the next pothole just cause a flat?

You'll improve ride quality most by using a different tire.

GP4K excel in many areas, but ride quality definitely isn't among them.

Something with a glued on tread like these?

But how puncture proof are they...?

Other options can include turbo Pro (not sworks) or Vittoria G+. I've never had a problem with GP4000s tho, yes cottons on lightweight tubes feel nicer but are also a hell of a lot more fragile.

I'm 195 lbs and ride on 25mm GP4000s on Kinlin XC279 rims at 85/90 psi-the ride quality and curve grip is incredible
