Stripping the paint of my TCR Advanced

This is my newest project. I'm going to strip the paint of my TCR Advanced to naked carbon. Wish me luck and if you want to share some tricks, please do because this is going to be a PITA.

That particular model of TCR Advanced SL has almost no paint on it. The white logos yes, but after that it is mostly clear coat with what seems to be a tiny layer of black around some of the tube junctions. I can't see any weight savings from this. If the objective is just to change the appearance then have at it.

BTW that is a nice bike - my favorite geometry TCR (2009/2010?).

I noticed 2 different layers of paint, yes.

It's a 2011 I think.

I stripped all the paint off my HMF scott addict, I used razors and changed blades frequently. Spent a little more and didnt get the cheapest blades available, the cheap ones don't hold an edge very long

Use a very thin layer of paint stripper to help speed the process. Put it on, wait 10-15 minutes, then wash off. Will help to kick start the paint/ clearcoat peeling and makes the scraping/sanding much faster. Manufacturers are rather paranoid when they say stripper will hurt the carbon, and a little bit won't really hurt it.

Make sure you wet sand as well. carbon and paint dust is nasty stuff, and helps in the cleanup.

Would not recommend 10-15. More like 2-3 max. Me and another member here have done the same.

Agreed with dudemanppl, better to let it sit on there for less time and have to do it two or three times than giving your frame a soft spot! I removed 100+ grams of paint from my white bike

I've debated stripping my look to refinish. Please report back with how much time it actually takes to accomplish getting it down to nude carbon.

So far so good. 3 hours including my learning curve for the fork. Pretty happy with the result!

Use a satin clear coat for a classy look. I really like the look of the paint (or rather clear coat over a light coat of paint) on the new Fuji SL.

Thanks for the advice but I think I want to go with just wax.

If anybody got some pointers for what to use I'll be all ears.

How many hours do you have into the frame now?

Oh, that is hell of a work!
I sanded a fork and it was extremely time consuming.
All warranty is void when you do this!
