Gold chain, yay or nay?
Moderator: robbosmans
Nearly finished with this build, just waiting on the wheels arriving (the new Vision Team 35s). Nothing fancy, just anodised rim 35mm jobs, something cheap to smash for a few seasons.
It will look reasonably blacked out then so was thinking to make it a bit B-Boy and throw on a gold chain. Having trouble deciding though.
What you think?

Gold chains would be nice but tan tyres would appear more striking on your black bike

Big fan of those gumwall tyres, just don't know enough about them to give them a shot. I'd need a set that were on par with the 4000s II.
That Belkin bike is the most ugliest colorset i've seen in times . .
The Belkin green doesn't match Celeste.
Gumwall tires look oldfashioned on a modern bike.
Black tires on black rims look much better, more uniform and more one piece.
Personally I dont like golden chains and where is the match here with this bike?
Why are you asking us what we think. So if the majority here says go for it you do?
But when the majority says no, you dont buy a golden one?
Do whatever you like, what you prefer. Follow yourself instead of others.
BTW a chain is a component what frequently need to be changed, makes it more easy to experiment with it.

For bling i would go for this one
http://www.kmcchain.eu/chain-KMC_DLC11_ ... s-11_speed
With that said, yes, i have used KMC's gold chain and it's been working great.
But not better or worse than standard DA chain.
I also have an all new KMC DLC11 red/black in a box.
But i won't use it this season either.
There is no meaning taking the DA chain off yet.
On my gravel (Open Cycle UP) i use Ultegra chain and it has been excellent just as the UL Di2.
With your bike (as posted) i would only use red accent components and/ or black.
I don't like mixing to much colours.

Some are a bit fragile, but according to my experiences so far, the new Vittoria Corsa G+ could be a tire for you.
Gold chain can look great on a black chainset, wouldn't use it with the DA crank.
@wheelsONfire
It's the old Ultegra chain that's on it at the moment! Was an Ultegra groupset, I've just put the DA on the past week. Chain's fine, been 'broken' a few times but I'd keep it on if not going for a coloured chain. Unfortunately I'm not feeling the multi-colour chains myself. I do like gold on black. Generally I don't like matching coloured componentry, black/red, black/red, black/red for example. Always felt it looked a bit cheap unless really classily done. Would rather go as far black as I can then just a splash of bling somewhere, if that makes sense.
It's not a very interesting coloured frame so want a way to bring some life out of it.
@Lieblingsleguan Yeah it's the DA chainset that had me undecided. I don't think it'll look good on silver like that. Ordered it now anyway and will see. Worst case scenario if I don't like it is I've got a lighter chain. If it's seriously gross I'll eBay it before putting it on properly. Will look up those tyres thanks! If the chain doesn't work out I'll look to that next.
@BRM Breathing exercises. They really help with stress.

IMHO, on your set up I wouldn't go with a gold chain... maybe a black chain... not a gold one.

I could never keep a chain clean enough for a significant colour to shine. Dunno how others manage it.
