Going from -6deg to -17 experiences?
Moderator: robbosmans
Wanted to get a bit more stretched out on my frame (it's pretty compact and I got a smaller one as I was kinda between sizes). At the moment I'm on a -6 120mm stem, and was going to get a -6 130mm stem, but really want a -17 as the stem will look straight on my sloping upwards headtube.
Would going to -17 and 130mm at the same time be too much of a difference in your experience? Should I go -17 and keep it at 120mm?
Really want a bit more reach. I'm not super flexy but I am working on it. My goal primarily is to get much more aero and work on maintaining it for longer distances.
Thoughts/experiences?

Do you not have spacers?
If you set the -17 up with ~25mm spacers to get the same bar stack, and the stem lengths are measured c-c, then there's only going to be a 5mm difference in reach.

I went the opposite way, so I could use the drops more (it was just a bit too much of a stretch) - it is much better all round now. I would get a uno stem for $25 and experiment

Uno stems are pretty light. Unless you need a stiff sprinter's stem, there's not much of a compelling reason to upgrade from an Uno "7". You might want to check out one of the many stem calculators online (not mine, mine does something completely different) to help you figure out the relative changes in handlebar reach/stack. But at 120-130mm, you're looking at ~25mm lower bars going from -6 to -17.
