Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum and hoping to get some opinions on the damage done to my Zipp 303. I believe I hit a pot hole and scraped the brake track, as there are also scrape marks on the sidewall of the tire. The damage doesn't seem that significant, but I'm curious if the wheel is rideable as-is, if it needs to be fixed, or if (hopefully not) it would need to be replaced. Thoughts would be appreciated.

how about examining inside face (given it looks to be a clincher) ?

what sort of speed / force were you carrying into the impact ?

The inside is fine. The damage appears to be to the resin surface and not the structure. I don't think the force was that significant since I don't even know what part of my ride it happened on. I only noticed it after I was finished riding. My main concern is whether the braking surface around that area will deteriorate over time and the damage will propagate.

Have you called Zipp?

I've found them easy to get on the phone and talk to.

I'd still ride 'em. Looks like a scuff to the surface, and no other signs of damage through the wall. Take them on an easy ride to test them out and get your confidence back. Maybe a carbon repairer can add some resin over the rough part (your braking may suffer).
