Chris king Inset 7 with THM SCAPULA CT
Moderator: robbosmans
Hello
i'm buying parts to a new Project and i would like to know if any one as this configuration:
Headset - Chris King inset 7
Thm Scapula CT
The reason i'm asking is that this fork as a 1/4" steer but the Chris King Inset 8 doesn't fit this fork (ended with the wrong part bought and now is for sale) so i would like to know if the INSET 7 is the correct one.
Let me know please,
Best regards
Nuno Pires

Hi Nuno,
Chris King Inset 8 is correct by dimension. However, THM CT has a fixed crown race. Now, it may be that this specific crown race does not fit in your Chris King Inset 8?
As is, you should just take out the standard Chris King crown race, and see if your THM CT fork fits in the lower CK Inset 8 cup?
If it does not, i suggest you send a mail to THM and ask what specific headset you can use.
I understand you have a head tube which is 44mm in diameter and you wish to fit a tapered fork to this frame.
So you need a head set for this. You should ask THM if your Inset 8 does not fit.
But do remember, the standard Chris Kind Inset 8 crown race you can't use, as THM CT is already fitted with a crown race.
So you need a headset that actually is made to fit this crown race.
Do you understand what i mean?

Thanks both, but that's not correct...
that's what i would think it's correct but i have both the fork and the Headset and it doesn't fit. the bearing doesn't even touch the crown of the fork.
looking at brands like Festka, the headset they are using, that i think is the INSET 7, the fork is flush with the headset.
see here:

an other user with the a Litespeed T1 SL, the fork isn't flush with the headset (big space looks like he is using CK crown) and looks like him remove the crown from the fork:

also check that but it doesn't fit.
the fork as it's own crown.
Anyone as this combination Inset 7 and THM Ct fork????
morrisond wrote:THM lists a 45 Degree and 36 Degree crown. Is this the issue?
I'm curious as well as I'm about to Build a frame with this fork.
the fork is 45º, not an issue here.
here is the topic of the bluid, frame is Columbus XCR Victoire Cycles- 44mm Headtube.

What frame is it for by the way?
in this particular case, depends on the crown that the fork have.
the technical detail of fork, you can see the crown is for a bigger bearing than an 1/4" one.
who as an CT fork what is the size of the lower bearing?????
Thanks for your help.
I see this on Fairwheelbikes
"The CT is equipped with an integrated 45 degree crown race to fit standard 1.25" headset cartridge bearings.
For further reference, THM’s highly detailed installation instruction booklet is included"

Not a lot of help I know hopefully someone else can help

Thanks Tenlegs,
but since i've both products at home i can say it doesn't fit, no matter what is wrote on sites. also the manual doesn't do references to the size of the bearing.
also the reference of thm to 1/4" is the tube of the fork not the crown race for the bearing.
Thanks anyway.
i'm almost sure the correct size is the INSET 7.
i will ask THM.
Now that I think of it I did try my CT on another bike with a Cane Creek EC44/33 Headset and it fit no problem.
The Chris King Baseplate and hence the lower bearing are different shape than others.
I'm guessing you will have better luck with a Cane Creek 110 Solution due to the shaping.
I'm putting my CT on a No22 Reactor with a Cane Creek IS47 lower bearing.
