Brake Cable upgrade question. !!
Moderator: robbosmans
Hey Guys,
After an agonising 10 month wait my new warranty frame will be here soon. While the LBS is swapping parts over is it worth changing the shimano brake cables. I have Fibula brakes and Dura Ace DI2, so the shifting cables won't need doing. The weights are front inner 15g, rear inner 24g, front outer 20g, rear outer 37g. Total 96g. Can I save weight here changing to say Jaglite and not loose performance, or just leave well alone.
Cheers

I'd go with an Alligator I-link. No real change in performance but you'll shave a good chunk of weight.

Many years ago, I used Alligator Mini I-Link shift and I-Link braking cables. I constantly battled poor shifting and returned to the heavier Yokozuna shift cables with my tail between my legs. The I-Links were just fine for braking.
I later went with Aican Bungarus for braking because they were reportedly lighter than I-Links. After maybe 3 seasons, I'm just now replacing them with another set. They work great, but many of the little barrels (ferrules?) appear corroded and some are chipped / cracked.

Thanks Johnny rad for the info, there's so many different opinions it's making it so hard to make a decision. What some like some hate. Don't want the LBS to have to change the cables again if I make the wrong choice. Any reports on Jagwire elite brake kits.
Unfortunately can't find any cables mentioned above for sale in Australia, so that adds another $45 p&p, plus 11-15 days wait.

Thanks for all the advice. Got Nokons put aside at the LBS and I've got Jagwire in transit so I'll weight them and see which to go for when my frame arrives. If I have no luck with these then I'll try something else. !!
