Just ordered a set of classic tubular wheels:

Ambrosio Nemesis Rims
Royce Hubs
Royce Skewers
Silver Sapim Spokes

Very classic, although they will be going on a black Cervelo.

I have narrowed the tyre choice down to Veloflex Roubaix (tan wall) or Arenberg (black wall). Identical in every other respect.

I keep hovering over the buy button on both.

Help!

Tires won't last forever, give the gumwall a go and then try the black when they wear out to compare the look and feel.

Both look good on my cervelo, but it really changes the overall look.

I think you owe it to the Nemesis rim to go with the Tan sidewall.

I am sorry to say, but "classic" is Nemesis laced to Record hubs ;)

I would choose Black spokes and Black tires. If silver spokes, then ... I wouldn't choose silver spokes.

I can be wrong, and have plenty of examples for that ;)

I think you picked an incredibly classy and cool combination. Royce hubs are sort of a halo item for me and something only the most discerning cyclists ride. Well done :)

I would go for gumwalls, but I think either is a good choice. Please post back here with your first impressions of the wheelset and a long term review once the hubs have bedded in!

Best,
Stefano

If I could find NOS 2005 silver Record hubs I would probably go for them, but Royce are a worthy alternative. Silver all round is definitely the timeless option!

Royce have a fantastic reputation.

The other wheels that I run on this particular bike are Lightweight Meilenstein Obermayers, so at the opposite end of the scale really.

Royce hubs are ace. Got a pair of custom royce hubs and oh my they cost more than my car but my car cost £500.

Yes they last forever too. I would say ride them into the ground but you might ride yourself into the ground first.

Black, always black. Not a fan of coloured sidewalls.
I'm left handed, if that matters.
