There is another option for the poll: Let the riders decide.

I'm not "opposed" to them. They have their place. Just not in the pro peloton.
Or on any of my best road bikes for that matter, but that's my call.
Colnago C64 - The Naked Build; Colnago C60 - PR99; Trek Koppenberg - Where Emonda and Domane Meet;
Unlinked Builds (searchable): Colnago C59 - 5 Years Later; Trek Emonda SL Campagnolo SR; Special Colnago EPQ

Good points.

But you can't fix a puncture like this using rim brakes!

What about disc brakes on large group rides? I mean, a lot of the group/training rides many of us do are like mini races.

File this discussion under "if the peloton switches to carbon rims, they will explode and everyone will die".

"The sky is falling".

I'm all for safety, though. Who will step up and provide a nice disk brake cover that increases aero and only adds a handful of grams?

Like the ones on motorcycles, only lighter.

I will say though... I think I agree with these statements:

Disc brakes should have NEVER arrived into the peloton, not at least as we know them right now. I haven’t met any rider who has run out of braking power with traditional brakes; I haven’t known anyone who didn’t see his wheels skidding when you brake with all power you’ve got, no matter traditional or disc brakes. Then: why using them?

I think you need to be a little more specific in your poll question. Here are my answers:

On road bike in pro or amateur racing I am against disc brakes.

On cyclocross bikes in pro or amateur racing I am for disc brakes.

For recreational riding use whatever type of brakes you want.

It's all downhill from here, except for the uphills.

I add this news from cyclingnews:

UCI suspends road disc brakes in races after Ventoso injury

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/uci-suspends-road-disc-brakes-in-races-after-ventoso-injury/

It is interesting the end of article:
Ventoso's teammate Rory Sutherland responded to the news of the suspension of disc brake use by asking, "because we really needed an accident to decide this was a bad idea? How many riders wanted discs? Nearly none!"

It is clear that disc brakes were pushed by some manufacturers and certaibly not the riders. I am glad to see UCI defending its riders.

Absolutely against having them in mass starts. By the way, I am seeing them in our local large and fast group rides, and while I find them unsettling, knowing they are there, I have also observed these riders losing contact in the later portions of the rides. I get a sense they rob watts as a result of the added weight, lossy aero aspects (added spokes and extra frontal cross-section).

I have no need for them for a mass start road application.
