Weight Weenies

Its time for a new wheelset, here is my story!

I bought a pair of Campag Bullet 80's which are a clincher around 18months ago. There fairly weighty at 1900ish. I live in a pretty flat area, but there are some hills but there short, but can be sometimes sharp.

I like the look of the 80's but they can look OTT, and I think i want something now 60mm in depth and lighter, so tubs seem to be the way.

I have been looking at the Zipp 404 firecrest 2016 model, and the Bora 50.

My question is this, how aero are the 404 and Bora's compared to my Bullet 80's? Zipp tell me the Firecrest is great and the rim design, but how good are they? and are they durable?

Any info will be great!

How about the new 404 NSW?
I guess 303 NSW is not for you as you want more aero?

I would consider both if the brake track is really good.
Weight is a bit up since it's clinchers..

Thank for reply. I will be taking my time with my purchase, I think I jumped the gun when I bought my last pair of wheels, I was a newbie but this forum has a wealth of knowledge
My budget is £1200/$1720 and the NSW in 404 isn't in budget,
Plus I would like to go tubular to keep the weight down and feel the comfort people speak about.

Any other wheel options out there?

I would like to have the same if not better aero results than what my Bullet 80s give, not sure how good or bad they are really, some weight saving is going to be welcome to, my club rides tend to have some more rolling terrain.

Get a pair of Bora One and you'll be happy.

I have some Campy wheels now, and I had 4 sets of wheels that the bearing died within 100miles.

I sent them away in the end to a Campy Pro Shop who replaced them with bearings of my choice, so I am reluctant to spend money on Campy again.

Other have comment on the Bora wheels, and people have come into to say that there isn't any aero data on them that Campy have tested them unlike Zipl, ENVE, Easton etc.

It's a bit off now sadly, because "sell out/ blowout" and sales discounts is not in sight now.
But at times, there have been great prices at Easton Aero 55 (tubular).
Also Reynolds 58 Aero...

Nowdays, clincher wheels tend to be more aero than tubulars..
Don't worry about the 200g extra weight.
One more thing from a practical perspective: you need good hubs, good brake track, and good stiffness.
Aero benefits come into place when you keep a constant 40km/h.. which is not as easy as it sounds (for me at least).
