Hello,

Got a question. Was making my bike, summer ready. New chain, cassette and chainrings. Also some bb c bear bearings and jockey wheels. Ordered a couple of stronlight ct 2 chainrings. But when I try to mount them there was a problem. I couldn't mount them with the chainring bolts that were on my current chainrings. It looks like I need the chainring bolts of a later 2011 version. Will they fit? Or is it a mission impossible?

It's mission impossible to offer any advice based on your information.

We need to know the year and model of the cranks. And what year and models the Stronglight rings were intended for.

Thanks for the reaction. I'm hoping to give some more info with what you can work with. Its a record ultra torque crank after 2011. The bolts that were on it are:

The ones I think I need are these:

I've got a brand new stronglight ct2 39t chainring 135bcd with screw threading in the 5 holes.

I think the guy I who sold me the bike changed a few chainrings.

One of us is confused.

Campy went to threaded inner chainring for the 2011 model year. So, if you have the 2-piece bolts you show in your first link, your crank is older.

Perhaps better to buy a inner chainring that is compatible with 2010 and earlier cranks?

If that's not possible, and you have a threaded ring, then the question is - "do the later bolts fit the older crankset?"

Offhand, I don't know. But it's been discussed here by graeme_f_k the resident expert. You'll have to a search for his writing on this.

I could not find the final answer to your question, but I suspect there is an incompatibility somewhere in trying to fit current rings to a pre-2011 crankset. Hopefully someone with better experience will help.

However, if you really do have a 2011 or newer crankset and the rings were changed, then they were changed out for the old style rings and bolts. Which would be good news for you as it indicates you should be able to return to the more recent threaded ring style.

You may just have to buy the bolts and try!

Thanks for your searching! I also went trough the forum search function. I think that stronglight will try to make chainrings as much as competibale with all cranck models. Due to production costs. So with that reasen I think they should fit. But to make sure I 've asked the question at bike components customer service.

Im not so familiar with Sronglight. TA Specialites has special boltsets for their rings. Just stupid that Stronglight doesn't follow the same strategy.

As far as I know Stronghlight had Always non threaded version of D chainring.
But it looks that there is a second one that has threads now, also called D although the threads are not mentioned in description?.
(you both can find them on the site of Stronglight) see pic
So you apperantly bought the last one with threads and this would mean (imo) that standard campa bolts are now required for this.

I guess OP should have bought the non-threaded ring, and then his existing bolt set would fit. Perhaps it was not available?

I thought I let you know if it fits. And yes it does. So you can put newer chainrings, ones with a threaded inner ring bolt holes, on your 2008/2011 crank. You only need a set of chainringbolts from the 2011/2015 model to go with it. And for the true weight weenies it will save you a few grams.
I asked why they delivered me a set with the new types. They said that the old ones are replaced. They now going to put a comment to clarify this for other customers.
