Like the idea for expected weight and drag saving but all the ones I've seen are heavier than the combined individual items.

Am I missing something?
.....but it still has to work!

No, they are heavier in general... but they tend to be stiff, so there's a trade-off. I have Most Talon Aero bars on my Pinarello F8. Quite significantly heavier than the 3T Aeronova and 3T stem that they replaced, but also very stiff and really perfects the front end of the bike.

This is what I have found and I have now had two built. I had RUE (no longer in business) build me some bars that was a while ago and they were 298g as pictures but this was done with a light weight aluminum stem and some light 26.0 bars.

I then had these built for my current bike.
380g complete. Not the lightest bonded bar/stem combo but the most aero you have seen.

Don't buy the handlebar from the first link, I bought the same or a similar one and while it's very light and pretty it is also incredibly flexible.
