I've read the verbiage on Zipp's website: replace when the rider can see through the woven ply.

I presume this is the tiny layer on top which is now polished on this wheelset. Do these look shot/worn out to you, or acceptable?

Thank you!

mostly was curious about the polished striation through the center of the track..... otherwise flush and smooth!

Zipp made the comment on their site and it can also be read here.... http://www.bicycling.com/bikes-gear/maintenance/do-you-need-replace-your-carbon-rims

Measure them - and compare with new wheels is the only option I guess. My carbon Dura Ace C24 wheels have the same issue and it looks like a deep brake track in the brake surface. So I measured the brake surface and it lost just 0,05 - 0,1mm of the thickness of the rim. The break surface is around 1mm thick so a loss of 0,1mm is just not that much as it looks like.

Carcinogent wrote:hmm, you might give Zipp customer service a call. It seems to be more specific for their products. I always thought if you don't have carbon weave peaking through etc. it was fine.

Do you mean the exposed fibers or the ability to see the weave pattern like in picture number 1?

I spoke with zipp and forwarded the photos. Per their rep, they look perfectly normal and any wear is well within the range of functional and not nearing the end of their service life
