Flat top compact drop bar advice
Moderator: robbosmans
I'm looking for a new bar with a flat/ergo top, 44cm wide and a compact drop. I've had my eye on the Thomson for a while as it's near perfect shape and a good weight, but the price is high.
Does anyone know of any similar shaped bars from other manufacturers? My initial thought was 3T, but the prices online are around the same as the Thomson.
It's worth noting I'm not really after anything as extreme as the Easton EC70/90, and it doesn't have to be carbon.

I picked up a set of aeronova pro?? the alloy ones from mantel a few weeks ago for 70 odd quid.
Is that price more pocket friendly?

Never actually looked at Pro parts - Shimano is the devil - but they look pretty nice.
£70 is a lot more friendly. Anything up to £100 should be okay.

The Thomson sucks and is heavy- my 42 weighed in at 200g. Try 3T Ergonova LTD, the 40's came in at 176g!

This has got to be the only place on the Interwebz where we will you find such statements.

I just went through this experience myself.

I got a 40 FSA Energy Compact, weighed in at 281 grams. I wasn't concerned about weight. I'm not overjoyed with the bar (was hoping for a bit "more flatter").
If I was doing it again, I would check out nickf's advice on the Williams:

Great info - thanks! The FSA is a nice bar - I was eyeing one up recently on an Orbea Orca in my LBS.
The Williams looks good - although I'm thinking the Pro mentioned earlier may be a better option from a cost point of view. The three mentioned all come in around the same weight/size.
Ideally I was hoping for something around 200g to shave a chunk of weight off my front end (currently running a 3T Ergonova Pro @ 273g) but I think we're definately going in the right direction...
I guess weight is a killer when you run 44cm bars
EDIT: Just spotted the Williams is a touch lighter than the FSA and Pro.
