This might be a long shot to find answers, but I couldn't find any online.

The short version: The rear derailleur doesn't move.

We installed a SRAM eTap group today, and went through the regular steps with pairing the rear derailleur with the front derailleur and the shifters.

The batteries seemed low, so they were charged as well. Despite full batteries, the rear derailleur didn't move.

Here are some bullet points about what happens.

- Pushing the function button on the rear derailleur to activate pairing mode works OK.
- Pairing the front derailleur and shifters works, since the fast blinking in both occurs.
- Using the front derailleur with the shifters works perfectly.
- Trying to shift the rear derailleur with the shifters doesn't do anything. No blinking, no action, despite the fact that in the pairing process they seem to find each other.

There is one thing that throws me off a bit.

When attaching a battery to the rear derailleur, the led light blinks orange/red and won't stop until the function button is pushed. -> When the function button on the rear derailleur is pushed, the green light blinks once, and then no blinking at all.

We tried changing the batteries, but the front always works perfectly, but the rear won't respond to any commands from the shifters.

Does anyone have any idea what the reason could be? Any fixes?

Are there any "hard reset" buttons hidden somewhere?

There are only a couple of examples out there of eTap. You may be better off having your shop contacting the SRAM rep and getting an answer.

Tried that... but no answer. To his defence, that was about 10 hours ago. :) Yes, very impatient to get it working.

In any case, if I get an answer before someone else has the time to post, I'll post here to inform any future owners.

does your rear derailleur shift if you use the function button (once for outboard, twice quickly for inboard)?

I haven't tried yet. At least once quickly for outboard does nothing, but that could be because the derailleur is already in the most outboard position.

The front derailleur does shift without problems when using the function button.

I don't have the bike at home, so I'll try that tomorrow.

The rear is the master and the FD is a slave, so the shifters are sending a signal. Rather weird and i'd wait for Sram to respond.

SRAM was finally very quick to take care of it. Apparently there was a problem with the derailleur, but they promised a send a new one that will be delivered today.

Not bad when the after sales service delivers a new piece in less than 24h.

Would be nice to know what exactly went wrong, but I guess we may never know. My speculation is simply a motor failure with the electronics still functioning. Glad they are being good to you, rarely if ever does one hear of SRAM not standing behind any of their parts.
