105 Shifters+DA Derailleurs vs DA Shifters+105 Derailleurs

With my budget, I'm able to splurge just a little bit on my groupset. Essentially, I can do one of the following:

1. Shimano 105 5800 Shifters + Dura Ace 9000 Front and Rear Derailleurs
2. Dura Ace 9001 Shifters + 105 Front and Rear Derailleurs

Which one of these do you think would be the better move for the money?

They recommend: Dura Ace shifters, 105 RD and Dura Ace FD.

Wait, Dura Ace has different cable pull ratio. Has this changed for 11 speed? Mixing 6700 and 7900 shifters and derailers was never optimal.

Pretty sure all the 11 speed stuff is compatible, and I'm sure you could do the same with the 10 speed stuff too. Might have had issues with 6600 and 7900 but if it's the same series it should be compatible.

7900 didn't mix with any other Shimano's 10-speed stuff. I got it to work with a 5700 RD but never typical Shimano smooth. The FD pull was different and did not have a trim feature.

On topic, I wonder about the difference in RD pulleys across 9000, 6800, and 5800. I'm rocking all 6800, but two winter seasons - and laziness on my part - has not been kind to my pulleys. It is my understanding that the 5800 RD doesn't have the same spec has 6800, which is still a bit beneath 9000. When I have to replace the entire RD, I will go with a 5800.

I would match FD with shifter although no citations to support this action; a cheaper RD would put more $$ in your pocket to spend towards wheels.

This is all speculation. Can someone confirm that Dura Ace 9000 has the same cable pull ratio as 6800/5700? Like I said - this wasn't the case with 10 speed 7900.

Dura Ace 9000 can be used with Ultegra or 105 11 speed.

I am running Dura Ace 9000 with Ultegra 6800 derailleurs. If I had 105 derailleurs, I probably couldn't tell the difference.

My vote is best shifters, down-level derailleurs.

Good suggestion - I think with my budget I can make the DA 9000 front derailleur fit too, then save the rest for the wheels.

I've thought about that as well, but for some reason I prefer the black aesthetic of 105/Dura Ace over the grey on Ultegra. I know, maybe a weird reason...might change my mind though at some point.

I just double-checked the Shimano compatibility chart, and it shows full compatibility for shifters and derailleurs across 9000, 6800, and 5800.
