SRAM Force / Rival 22 compatibilty with 10 speed
Moderator: robbosmans
Are SRAM Force / Rival derailleurs compatible with SRAM 10 speed shifters and cassette? I heard the 11 speed Yaw Derailleur can actually improve shifting on a 10 speed system. Does the RD have the same actuation? It is harder to find 10 speed derailleurs and they tend to be more expensive.
Thanks.
Thanks.
You mean 11-speed derailleurs? Yes, compatible.

You can also source a RED YAW FD 10-speed, but like Marin stated, Rival22 will work fine and likely cheaper.

Yes, Sram 10 and 11 speed derailleurs seem to work pretty interchangeably.
I know several people who upgraded their new Red 10-speed set ups to 11-speed by simply replacing the right shift lever, cassette and chain. I don't know how well it works with the older Red 10-speed stuff.
And when I head out to the mountains, I will often replace my Red 10-speed RD with a Force 22 WiFli RD so I can run a 32 cassette. (That cassette with my 53/39 crankset equates to a 34-27 on the low end.)

Older Red works too, but the derailleur can't really take 28t cogs without some hacks.
New Red and Red 22 takes a _32_ without problems on my Road Logic.

Does the new 11 speed Force RD take a 36 cassette?
Planning this set up for light touring. I know the specs say no, but one poster in a nother forum said that he had done it.

Just use a 10x MTB derailleur.

That's one option but if the road RD takes a 36 it saves me a lot of hassle.

Sram WiFli - aka long cage RD - is rated for 32. I've not tried a 36 on it.
