Bike Ahead Composites - Bi-Turbo Road, Any experience?

Hi,

I'm considering a set of the new Bike Ahead Composites bi-turbo road wheels.

Whilst the few reviews I can find are positive and the specs look great i'm wondering if anyone has any experience of this or any other BAC wheelsets.

These wheels are such a new product that i wonder if anyone really has these yet.
Perhaps you should email Bike ahead directly and ask your questions that you may have?

Interesting, but from the web link, I get the impression that the wheels weigh 1100+ grams per wheel!

The weight is per the set.
Disc only.

But clincher.

Yeah it's 1100g for the set.

I've got a disc brake road frame (Wyndymilla - Massive attack) and just looking at a few other options on wheels vs the other stuff i'm considering, Enve, Ax-lightness etc...

I've asked bike ahead the few questions I had, I was just looking to see if anyone had some hands on experience outside of either sponsored riders or magazine tests.

If nothing too scary comes to light I'll likely order a set in the next week.

Will report back once they turn up.

I'm currently running a set built on Extralite cyber SPD hubs, 30mm gigantex ultralight tubular rims with Sapim cx-rax super spokes, they weigh in at around 1100g also but I'm starting to find tubs to be more hassle than they are worth to me.

Spent a little time on the Reynolds Assault disc wheelset too which was pretty impressive if a little heavier than i was looking for.

Haven't had the chance to ride anything with disc hubs from Zipp or Enve yet.

What are you currently running?

Went from CCU to Ax Stream 38 (Tune Mig45/Mag150) and Easton Aero 55 tubular (both tubular).
New bike on the way, with No tubes Avion Pro (tubeless/ clincher).
I am also curious of the BA Biturbo. I wonder if they are too stiff or how they ride.
Awesome wheels judging by the looks and weight seems really good for a clincher disc set.
However, if they are stiffer than CCU i don't think they are for me. I realized a bit too late that i am no fan of the
sets i find too stiff. They simply ride to harsh (CCU). I also like the wider rim ideal which my current wheels all have.

Decided to take the plunge,

Wheelset is on order should be around 5-6 weeks to delivery.

Wow,... these would for certain make me on fire.
Do you plan on using them tubeless? I think you'd need no tape as there are no spoke holes.

Yes planning on running them tubeless with the schwalbe pro ones

As you say no tape required as you say there aren't any spoke holes.

Just need them to hurry up and get here!

Talked to the guys. They recommended me a set of S 29ers for the new bike.
They could make a version with 11 speed road freehub body and a reinforced rim.
I have already a special order which i can't rid now. If i could have, i think i had checked if i could have bought these.
The road version, it's awesome. I hope you come back and give some deep insight?
I know i want it badly (either here or a PM )
I would be a bit nervous they rode very very stiff. I don't like how my previous CCU rode (talking ride feel)

Once i get hold of them i'll post my thoughts on the wheels.

Yeah i talked to them about a special order set of the Bi-Turbo RS wheels with the reinforced rim.

Probably a little too wide for my frameset and planned usage, the Bi-Turbo RS has a 27mm internal width!

Great for 30mm+ gravel tyres or MTB tyres but i'm not so sure it'd be a good match for the 25-28mm road tyres i'm likely to run.

No, that's for sure. That would be too wide for anything with road tires i think!?
The S version could probably work with 30+ mm.
But i guess you ordered the road version?

Yes i went for a set of the bi-turbo roads, still quite wide with a 20mm internal width and a little lighter than the custom build option.

7 week lead time from when i ordered, so i think i'm still 3-4 weeks away from them turning up.

Time goes slowly waiting for new parts!!
