Hello All :)

Long time no see

I have been away from the forum for some time now, but now I need your help again.

I am in the situation I need some new wheels for my bike.

The bike in question is my 2004 Litespeed Vortex Custom and I race in Scandinavia.

Should I go for Enve SES 4.5 Clincher - Chris King 20/24 - 1511g OR Lightweight MEILENSTEIN Clincher - 16/20 - 1180g?

Would you choose less weight over aerodynamics or vice versa?

Have any of you guys ever seen an older Litespeed with Enve SES 4.5? They are pretty wide at 27/25.5mm. Are there space enough in the rear (behind the BB) for a 25.5mm wide carbon rim. The older wheels I have used were 22.6mm.

Any thoughts?

I have a set of enves 6.7 on my Lynskey Helix and they look awesome on ti bikes and they dont break the bank as much as the LWs. Just make sure they fit your frameset I also blacked out the ENVE 1.0 fork to match the wheelset

Hello Jim :-)

What is the distance between the chain stays behind the BB (where the rim rotates)?

Do you have any tire rub on the stays?

Do you have the possibillity to measure that on your Helix.

Thanks in advance.

I vote for enve but, recommend using dt240s or dt180.

180s are all over Ebay right now for ridiculous prices. I just picked up a 24 hole rear for $299 brand new. Cheaper than you can find a 240.

If you have a sponsor, go with LWs...

I had 4.5 clinchers built with Tune Mig/Mags. Cheaper than the factory CK wheelset and 1430g with rim tape.

Handbuilt, such as Enve, is always the sensible choice. In the grand scheme of things the only reason to buy Lightweights is to say you have them (and this is coming from someone with LWs and RZRs)

As much as I lust for a set of lightweights I would go with a more conventional build. The enve/ king build is bulletproof and serviceable by any wheel builder. King hubs are nice but I would go with some tune hubs or dt180s to get the weight down.

300-400gr less on a wheelset is really something IME.
Still there are much better and lighter choises than Enve like Bora ultra 50 @ 1435gr.

Don't classic lightweights match a classic traditional bike much better than more modern deep section wheels like ENVE? On a modern aero frame, I'd def. choose ENVE over lightweight, but in this case I think in terms of looks, I'd go lightweights.

Agree 100% on the Bora's! Couldn't be happier with mine, considered all the usual options and went with the Bora Ultra 50C darn label. Best looking wheels out there imho and can't fault the performance.

In case you 're a heavier rider LWs are much stiffer.
