I've got a question near this topic. I just built my first bike with inner cables. It was a used frame. When I was cleaning it up, i noticed a fair amount of dirt in the BB shell.
The assembled bike is shown below (ignore the red highlights, that was from another thread). You can see the gaping hole Trek left down there. The Canyon in the first post of this thread is better, but still has entrance holes for debris.
I intend to tape over this entire cutout, leaving only the small drain-hole (that you can just make out between the cutout and brake).
Do any of you tape this area? Have you ever taken out your cranks, and checked the shell for gunk?
do you guys keep your shift inner liners in the frame
